Video footage of this case, which appeared on social media on September 19, led to police intervention. Five people have been detained so far.
Member of Parliament from Congress, Pranaya Gandhi Vadra, sharply reacted to this terrible situation, calling it a horrific event and noting the rise in crimes against women. She emphasized that if the safety of women on the streets cannot be guaranteed, then discussions about major programs and plans are meaningless.
Pranaya Gandhi stated that the situation has become unsafe for women and believes that both state and central governments must consider how to ensure a sense of security for women.
The events took place near the main Lakhisarai route in Jamui, in a hilly area, approximately three kilometers away. A tenth-grade student and her classmate, who were in the same coaching group, were riding a scooter after classes. According to reports, a group of young men stopped them on the road, separated the boy, and began harassing the girl.
Some people tried to intervene, but the incident continued for some time. The most alarming aspect was that no complaints were filed regarding this case for two days. SUP Jamui Vishwadjit Dayal himself admitted that no application had been received from the victim's side until Sunday.
After the video went viral, the victims were identified by their vehicle number, after which a complaint was registered. A special investigation team was formed under the guidance of SDPO Dipti Monali. The National Women's Commission also drew attention to the case and instructed DGP to take strict measures.
After the victim's identity was revealed, the police were forced to register a separate case against about 120 social media profiles through the cyber police station. The opposition presented this as an example of deteriorating law and order in Bihar, to which Minister Shravan Kumar responded by calling it an isolated incident and expressing the government's regret.
