The series 'Ride or Die,' which premiered in June, has been canceled by Prime Video after only one season. The project stars Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, who also serves as an executive producer.
The plot of the series centers on the friendship between best friends Debbie Clayborne (played by Spencer) and Judith Burton (played by Waddingham), who believe they know everything about each other. This changes when Debbie discovers that Judith is an international assassin.
After the appearance of a mysterious figure from the past and a failed assassination attempt, the friends are forced to flee together. Their journey takes them across Europe, where they try to evade pursuit by law enforcement, highly skilled assassins, and dangerous criminals.
According to a report from Deadline, Prime Video decided not to renew the series for a second season. Currently, there is no information on whether 'Ride or Die' can be acquired by another streaming platform.
Following the cancellation announcement, Octavia Spencer shared her thoughts on social media. She expressed gratitude to the teams that worked on the series and shared her impressions of the production process. Spencer wrote: 'I hope that every creative person receives the incredible experience I gained bringing this project to life with the unwavering support of Skydance/Paramount over these three years.'
Furthermore, she thanked Matt Tunell, Dana, Shelly, and Blair, as well as Barbara and Double Dream. She added: 'Projects like these should not be the exception; they should be the rule!' Spencer also thanked the viewers who empathized with Debbie and Judith, writing: 'To all women who felt seen, who laughed out loud, who lived openly with Debbie and Judith, thank you.'
In addition to Spencer and Waddingham, the cast includes Ed Crane as Billy, Kalam Lynch as Sam, Savannah Stein as Quinn, and Jamie Parker as David. Jackie Edo plays Jax, Sylvia Hoeks plays Anna, and Bill Nighy plays the Director.
