Generation Z is changing travel trends: preferring frequent short trips over long vacations

Unlike previous generations who took one or two long vacations after prolonged work, waiting sometimes for a whole year, the current generation is breaking free from these limitations. The process of getting vacation approval from management, waiting for a year, and the subsequent complex planning of a trip are no longer the norm for young people.

For Generation Z, travel is becoming a way to take a break from daily life and gain new experiences, rather than waiting for one big vacation. This new approach to travel is gaining popularity among young people: it can be spontaneously planned trips with friends, a desire to explore a specific place, or simply a wish to step away from routine for a while.

According to a new Airbnb report, Generation Z in India is increasingly incorporating short trips into their lives instead of resting only once a year. The way they travel is also changing: young people prefer to plan less, make more spontaneous trips, and travel according to their preferences.

The report, titled 'Never the Same: The New Rules of Gen Z Travel in India,' indicates that for them, travel means not so much visiting many places as choosing places and experiences where they feel most comfortable and natural.

The report shows that the image of Gen Z travel in India is rapidly transforming. Approximately 7 out of 10 young people in this generation prefer to take three short trips a year instead of one long vacation. Furthermore, 95% want their trip to be personal and unique, rather than looking like a pre-planned or standard tourist trip.

87% of Generation Z members believe that their way of traveling reflects their personality. Among young people traveling in a group, more than half prefer to stay in one shared space or home rather than booking separate hotel rooms. Moreover, for three out of four young people, who they travel with is far more important than where they go.

This shift shows that for Generation Z, travel is not just about reaching a destination. Companions, the experience gained there, and the degree to which the place matches their tastes are also important. Therefore, they prefer to create plans according to their needs and mood, instead of following standard packages or fixed itineraries.

This is why staying in shared accommodations with friends, spontaneous trip planning, or visiting a city for a special experience is becoming part of the youth's cultural landscape. For Generation Z, travel is now not just a story about 'where they went,' but also a story about 'how they felt.'
