Surendra Singh Chaudhary, known on social media as Bittu Tabahi, who previously gained attention for cleaning the Ajnar river in Madhya Pradesh, has now started his cleanup campaign along the banks of the Yamuna in Delhi. On September 20, he organized a cleanup drive with local residents and volunteers.
This rescue project lasted about four and a half hours, during which 585 kilograms of trash were removed. Bittu Tabahi has recently been conducting drives in various parts of the country to raise public awareness about the need to keep public places clean.
Videos of his work cleaning the Ajnar river caused a wide resonance on social media, attracting the attention of Boyan Slatt, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. He invited Bittu Tabahi to collaborate with his organization. Now, his efforts have extended beyond Madhya Pradesh, expanding the scope of his environmental work.
In a video published on September 21, Bittu Tabahi spoke about his first cleanup event in Delhi. He noted that he had long wanted to work on the condition of the Yamuna River. His awareness campaign for cleanup in different states became known to Philip Morris, a company that supported this initiative and helped organize the event in Delhi.
Bittu Tabahi specified that the event was held on the occasion of World Cleanup Day. Local residents and volunteers actively participated in collecting trash along the Yamuna banks.
During the cleanup on the Yamuna banks, the team discovered various types of waste, including plastic, flower garlands, and items related to religious rituals. Bittu Tabahi showed in the video that a significant amount of trash had accumulated along the river. The team worked continuously for many hours, collecting all the found waste in one place.
After approximately four and a half hours of intense work, he reported that the total amount of collected trash was 585 kilograms. He also shared information about this event on Instagram, where the post description stated that on September 20, in observance of World Cleanup Day, a cleanup was conducted along the Yamuna banks for four and a half hours, resulting in the removal of 585 kg of trash. He thanked all the local residents and volunteers who participated in the campaign.
Bittu Tabahi's campaign will not be limited to Delhi. He announced that the next destination will be Kherki Daula in Gurgaon. He expressed gratitude to Philip Morris for the cooperation and urged people to join the next cleanup drive. Thus, Bittu Tabahi's campaign, which began with the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh, reached the Yamuna in Delhi, and after removing 585 kg of trash in one event, his attention shifted to Gurgaon. This campaign is being promoted as an attempt to unite people for cleaning public spaces in different cities.
