The Institute for Healthcare Quality (IPC) has released a new guideline requiring hospitals to strengthen control and reporting on adverse events related to medical equipment.
A more systematic monitoring system for hospital safety will now cover cases where an insulin pump delivers excessive insulin, an infusion pump administers medication too quickly, a pulse oximeter shows incorrect oxygen levels, or a defibrillator fails during a heart attack.
The new requirement obligates medical institutions to submit reports on such serious incidents within fifteen days.
