As a result of a year-long cross-study of sewage water conducted in Paris, scientists were able to detect twenty-seven different genotypes of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Among the identified strains, HPV 6, HPV 53, and HPV 66 were the most frequently found. Particular attention was drawn to the highly oncogenic type 16, which was found in 21 percent of the samples analyzed, while type 18 was present in five percent.
