The Sivananda Peace Foundation marked International Day of Peace on Monday by organizing a school program aimed at strengthening social cohesion, well-being, and peace among youth.
The event took place at Enive High School in KwaZulu-Natal under the motto 'Serve. Love. Be Kind, Do Good.' It gathered students for sessions on meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, mindfulness, as well as discussions on respect, moral revival, and peaceful coexistence.
The goal of this initiative is to provide students with practical methods for stress management while promoting tolerance and respect for diverse beliefs and cultures.
Statement from the Foundation President
The President of the Sivananda Peace Foundation, Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabeka Zulu, who is also the Royal Envoy for Social Cohesion and Economic Development in Zimbabwe, stated that the process of peacebuilding must begin with the younger generation.
He emphasized: 'When we teach a child to meditate, breathe, and live with respect for all beliefs and cultures, we sow the seed of a peaceful society. True peace begins in the classroom, with our youth.'
The program included yoga sessions themed 'Unity in Diversity,' as well as wellness and mindfulness sessions designed to promote the emotional well-being of the students.
The Foundation reported that this initiative is part of broader efforts to promote the teachings of Swami Sivananda through his 'Sivananda Pillars of Peace' program. Furthermore, the foundation continues its programs for youth development, scholarship support, and improving the lives of rural communities in KwaZulu-Natal, in preparation for the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The Foundation noted that its school programs aim to motivate young people to become positive participants in their school and community by promoting peace, respect, and social cohesion.
