Google has unveiled Googlebook, a new category of notebooks developed in partnership with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Five of the first models are already available for pre-order, with price ranges varying between US$ 899 (approximately R$ 4,603) and US$ 1,299 (about R$ 6,651).
This device line merges Android technology with ChromeOS desktop principles, aiming to strengthen the connection between computers and mobile phones. The experience offered includes Gemini-based artificial intelligence functionalities, robust security features, and support for software updates for up to ten years.
The integration between devices begins during setup, allowing the user to transfer phone data to the Googlebook, such as saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages, all protected by end-to-end encryption.
In daily use, the Continue On feature allows a task started on the phone to be resumed on the notebook. Files simplifies locating photos and files stored on the mobile device. Additionally, Cast My Apps allows streaming mobile applications to a window on the notebook, enabling their use without interrupting the workflow.
Artificial intelligence is incorporated into various everyday tools. With Magic Pointer, the user can ask Gemini for information about what is displayed on the screen, whether to organize a calendar or translate a piece of text. Rambler converts speech into structured content, such as to-do lists or notes. Meanwhile, Create My Widget allows generating custom widgets from a simple natural language description.
The notebooks also support desktop Chrome, extensions, and Play Store apps, including software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and CapCut. For development professionals, a complete terminal has been included with access to tools such as Claude Code and Antigravity CLI.
The first generation of Googlebook comprises five distinct models. These devices are built using materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, and magnesium alloy. Other highlights include OLED screens with up to 2.8K resolution, backlit keyboards, Neural Processing Units (NPUs) with over 45 TOPS capacity, and battery life of up to 14 hours. The Glowbar, an external light bar, signals the battery charge level and interacts with Gemini.
The notebooks will be available in US stores starting October 4th. Each unit comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro, which offers 5 TB of cloud storage, in addition to three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop subscriptions, among other benefits.
In terms of security, the platform adopts the ChromeOS architecture, featuring Titan hardware as its root of trust and malware detection mechanisms directly on the device. A Level 5 certified pKVM hypervisor is used to establish an isolated Linux environment.
Specifically for the Acer Googlebook 14, the US$ 899 price corresponds to the 'initial launch price available for a limited time'. The company emphasizes that this value may be revised depending on market conditions and component supply. Currently, there are no plans to commercialize these products in Brazil.
