Acer CEO predicts PC prices will fall starting in 2027, after expected peak in 2027

While representatives from technology companies presented pessimistic forecasts regarding the RAM memory crisis, Jason Chen, CEO of Acer, offers a more positive perspective. The executive anticipates that computer prices will reach a peak in 2027 but will begin to decline in the same year.

For this change to occur, the market will need to undergo adjustments. Chen estimates that PC prices should rise by an average of between 5% and 20% until the end of 2026. This increase is attributed to the mismatch between component costs and the final prices charged to consumers, requiring a rebalancing process.

However, price stabilization is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with the effective drop predicted for the second half of that year, although the proportion of this drop remains uncertain, according to Chen.

This forecast comes amid a context where demand for RAM and other components remains high, driven by the rapid expansion of data centers focused on artificial intelligence. However, Chen argues that the PC industry is receiving sufficient supplies to meet production, emphasizing that scarcity is only noticeable in specific niches.

The CEO also mentioned that memory manufacturers seek to maximize their profits for as long as possible, which leads to statements indicating that component prices will not fall until 'the year 20 and something'.

Another positive factor pointed out by Chen for the price reduction is the increased participation of Chinese manufacturers in the PC component market. Acer itself is already using chips from the Chinese company CXMT in some of its product lines.

It is important to note that the view of a single executive does not reflect the consensus of the entire sector. Furthermore, Jason Chen's statements were made to the Taiwanese newspaper Money UDN, which may indicate Asian market trends, and not necessarily the global scenario.
