A sad news has emerged from Kuno National Park, where 'Gaurav', a Namibian male cheetah over 10 years old, died on Monday evening around 4 PM during treatment. This cheetah had been receiving treatment at the Kuno-Palpur animal hospital for the past nine days.
'Gaurav' was found weak and lethargic in the open forest on September 12, 2026. He was subsequently rescued and transferred to a quarantine enclosure. Initial examination revealed that he was very weak, his muscles were debilitated, and he suffered from severe dehydration.
He was immediately provided with necessary medical assistance and support, after which he was taken to Palpur and kept in the Quarantine Boma (QB), where continuous monitoring and treatment continued.
Based on initial clinical examinations, it was suspected that 'Gaurav' might have an underlying chronic illness. Despite continuous treatment and support, his condition worsened, and he passed away on Monday evening around 4 PM. The exact cause of 'Gaurav's' death will only be clear after the post-mortem and analysis of samples, and detailed information will be available once the report is received.
Following the death of 'Gaurav', there are now 51 cheetahs remaining in Kuno National Park. These cheetahs include 36 that were born in India. Out of the cheetahs present in Kuno, 16 are currently roaming freely in the open forest. Additionally, there are 4 cheetahs in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, bringing the total number of cheetahs in the country to 55.
