The international Russian language Olympiad, dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Vladimir Dal's birth and the 35th anniversary of CIS countries, has started. Students from grades 7–9 in CIS countries, including Uzbekistan, can participate.
This was reported by the International Center for Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of Russia. The Olympiad is conducted in two directions: 'Russian as a Foreign Language' for those studying Russian as a foreign language, and 'Russian as a Language of Instruction' for schoolchildren whose native or primary language of instruction is Russian.
The first selection stage will take place from September 21 to October 18. Participants complete test assignments related to the life and work of Vladimir Dal.
The final stage will be held on October 21–23. It involves the best students from each country who scored the highest points in the first stage. Finalists write a creative essay.
Based on the results of the Olympiad, 25 finalists will be invited to Moscow to participate in a cultural and educational program from November 21 to 24. The awards ceremony will take place on November 22, the birthday of Vladimir Dal.
Olesya Vech, head of the Education Department of the International Center for Cooperation, noted that the Olympiad helps identify and support talented schoolchildren interested in the Russian language and culture, and also gives the younger generation an opportunity to learn more deeply about Vladimir Dal's heritage and reveal the richness of the Russian language.
The goal of the event is to support the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication, strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties, and increase students' interest in learning Russian.
