Typhoon Dudjang, the twenty-fifth typhoon of the season according to Japanese classification, was located approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Hatidjo Island at 09:00 (01:00 Lisbon time). It was moving in a northeasterly direction at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour, accompanied by sustained winds of up to 144 kilometers per hour, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
Dudjang is expected to continue moving northeast and approach the Boso Peninsula, located in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, during today and tonight.
The Chiba Prefectural Road Management Office began implementing preventive traffic restrictions on an underground city crossing early this morning after issuing a severe weather warning due to intense rainfall.
The storm also forced the conclusion of the Tokyo Game Show, Asia's largest video game exhibition, one day earlier than scheduled. The thirtieth edition of the event, which was the largest in history, ended on Sunday instead of the planned date.
The JMA forecasts that by 06:00 on Tuesday (22:00 today Lisbon time), the Tokai region will receive up to 350 millimeters of precipitation, 300 millimeters in Kanto (the region including Tokyo), 200 millimeters on the Izu Islands, and 200 millimeters in Tohoku.
The agency warns of very strong winds in the western part of 23 wards of Tokyo and signals risks of flooding, landslides, and river overflow.
