Red alert declared in UAE due to fog; temperatures up to 45°C expected in Dubai

Following a period of hot days and humid nights, summer in the United Arab Emirates is officially coming to an end, and residents are anticipating cooler months ahead.

A downward trend in temperature is being observed. According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), Friday saw the lowest temperature of summer 2026 recorded in Rakna, Al Ain, when the thermometer fell to 18.8°C at 6 am.

Rakna in Al Ain often registers some of the lowest temperatures in the UAE, sometimes dropping below zero in winter and forming frost or ice cover.

Other low temperature readings were noted in several locations early Friday morning. Damat registered 21.4°C at 4:30 am, while in Al Watba, the temperature reached 22.3°C at 6:15 am.

The relatively cool reading is linked to the fact that temperatures in some parts of the country begin to decrease towards the end of summer, although daytime conditions remain warm in most areas.

Astronomically, summer in the UAE will conclude on Wednesday, September 23rd, with the autumn equinox. Although temperatures usually start to drop towards the end of August and September, residents should expect warm weather. Mohammed Al Ebri, Director of NCM, told Khaleej Times in August: 'The temperature will drop, but it will still be warm.'

Ahmed Habib, a meteorologist at NCM, also told Khaleej Times that in the coming months, from October to January, the UAE may see above-average rainfall as the country transitions into its cooler and wetter season.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the weather in the UAE on Friday will be predominantly clear or partly cloudy. Low clouds are expected in some areas of the eastern coast.

On Friday, the maximum temperature will reach 41°C in Abu Dhabi, 40°C in Sharjah, and 38°C in Dubai. Nighttime lows will drop to 28°C in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and 27°C in Sharjah.

During the night and in the morning hours of Saturday, an increase in humidity is forecast over some coastal and inland areas. These conditions may trigger the formation of fog or haze in certain locations, potentially reducing visibility for drivers in the early hours.

The wind will be light to moderate, initially blowing from the southwest and then shifting to the northwest. Wind speeds will range from 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching 30 km/h. The sea in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will remain calm.

Residents of the United Arab Emirates can expect clear or partly cloudy weather on Wednesday, September 9th. According to data from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), clouds will appear in the east and south of the country after noon.

The meteorological department noted that it will be warm across the country, with temperatures rising up to 46°C in some places. The maximum temperature in Dubai is expected to reach up to 41°C, while in Abu Dhabi it will reach 43°C. Nighttime lows in Dubai will drop to 33°C, and in Abu Dhabi—to 32°C.

Light to moderate southeast or northeast winds are expected across the country, which may occasionally intensify. Wind speeds will be 10–25 km/h but may increase to 35 km/h. The sea in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will be calm.
