XPeng has released its new flagship AI-based SUV, the G9L, in China. Sales began at an event in Beijing on September 17, 2026, with an initial price of 231,800 yuan. It is available in six configurations with powertrains that are either battery electric or range-extender, with limited offers potentially reaching 309,800 yuan by the end of November.
The letter 'L' in the name indicates a larger five-seater flagship, rather than just an extended version of the previous G9 model. The G9L measures 5,120 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,782 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. XPeng describes this wheelbase-to-length ratio as the golden 0.605, aimed at ensuring cabin space without compromising urban maneuverability. The standard rear steering system improves the turning radius for a vehicle over five meters long, and the chassis features a two-chamber pneumatic suspension with adaptive damping.
The powertrains are designed for various use cases. Battery electric options offer a CLTC range of 660 km to 702 km and up to 755 km. Range-extender models combine a 1.5-liter generator with a 63.3 kWh battery pack, providing about 435 km of pure electric CLTC range and a total range of up to 1,602 km. All versions are built on an 800V architecture with 5C fast charging; XPeng claims that peak recharging on the battery electric variant can add approximately 450 km in about nine minutes. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive options allow acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just about 4.45 seconds on top BEV configurations.
In terms of software, the most advanced configurations utilize up to three Turing AI chips with a power of about 2,250 TOPS and represent XPeng's second vision-language-action stack, including the simplified VLA Lite path on Max models. Cabin features include adaptive body-contouring seats, zero-gravity rear seats, and a large rear multimedia display, catering to families and long journeys.
Beyond China, XPeng plans a global presentation on October 12 at the Paris Motor Show and states that the G9L will enter the market in 64 countries. Mass production will take place in Guangzhou and at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria, making this model the fourth XPeng vehicle produced at this European facility.
