The Samsung Gallery application has started incorporating a new integration feature with Google Photos, replacing the previous backup system provided by Microsoft OneDrive. This new feature has been gradually made available to certain users following updates to the relevant applications and imposes some important limitations.
Samsung had announced earlier this week that it would replace the OneDrive backup integration with synchronization to Google Photos, but the feature was not yet accessible at that time. Currently, this functionality is beginning to be distributed to users.
The arrival of this update in the Gallery application comes after updates to the Gallery Sync and Samsung Cloud applications. According to 9to5Google, version 15.9.01.7 of the Gallery is likely responsible for activating the synchronization, although other applications also contribute to the functioning of this feature.
Additionally, the Gallery application will not display all material stored in Google Photos. It will only show files that were synchronized from the Gallery via a Samsung device. This means that content already saved directly in Google Photos, without having gone through the synchronization process of a Samsung device, will not be visible in the Gallery.

If the device has received all necessary updates, the user can find the option to activate synchronization within the Samsung Gallery by following the path: Menu > Settings > Sync > Sync photos and videos. From this point, the user can enable the connection with Google Photos.
This change also signals the end of the integration between the Gallery and OneDrive. For those who still use the Microsoft service, synchronization will remain active until September 30th.
