A meeting took place in Washington between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bassett and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. This meeting occurred against the backdrop of the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the goal of the negotiations was to discuss economic and trade relations between the two countries.
Negotiations between the US and Chinese delegations were paused during the lunch break. During this break, the Chinese delegation left the reception complex for a meal, while the American delegation had lunch in the building. After lunch, representatives from both sides returned and resumed the dialogue.
According to sources, both sides aim to find common ground for potential agreements in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and rare earth minerals. It is expected that important decisions on these issues will be announced this week.
Sources also reported that the American delegation is working on an agreement format that will allow President Trump to make a final 'yes or no' decision before meeting with President Xi Jinping at the White House.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with President Donald Trump. After this conversation, Zelensky stated that it was an important discussion during which numerous key issues were addressed. He reported that the sides agreed on a meeting in New York, which could significantly change the situation, noting the acceleration of diplomatic activity.
Zelensky thanked the US President for the visit of Stephen Witcoff and Gerard Cushner to Kyiv, emphasizing that the American group personally familiarized itself with the current situation in Ukraine. The Ukrainian President also stated that his main priority is a peace process that includes addressing security issues such as de-escalation, energy and food security, and the protection of human lives.
