In a statement, the President of Mozambique announced that Daniel Chapo will be the keynote speaker at the Oil and Gas Forum 2026 in Rio de Janeiro on Monday. The event is held under the slogan 'Energy Evolution for the Future.'
The Mozambican Ambassador to Brazil, Alexandre Manjate, noted that Chapo intends to deepen cooperation with the South American country in the field of deep-water oil and gas exploration. This will be achieved through knowledge exchange and the creation of investment partnerships.
He emphasized that Mozambique's participation in the Forum provides an opportunity to demonstrate national potential and study the experience of other countries in hydrocarbon extraction, especially those examples that can contribute to the development of the sector in Mozambique.
Manjate commented on Brazil, stating: 'Brazil's experience is interesting. We have linguistic, cultural, and human similarities, and Petrobras [the Brazilian oil and gas company] conducts deep-sea oil and gas exploration. It has a unique specialization, and Mozambique shares similarities in terms of the location of our resources in the open sea. Brazil has been doing this for a long time; it has one of the best technologies for it.'
Brazil is seeking new structures for cooperation in this hydrocarbon sector and for identifying new investment opportunities.
The event is organized by the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Gas and Biocomponents (IBP) and brings together various participants from the global energy industry, including companies such as TotalEnergies, Shell, and Petrobras, according to the Presidency's report.
The same presidential message indicates that the President of Mozambique will undertake a three-day working trip to New York on Monday to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The session is dedicated to the theme 'Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Benefits All.'
During the working trip, Daniel Chapo will take part in the General Debate of the 81st session of the General Assembly, as well as in other high-level events. The Presidency emphasizes that this annual meeting brings together world leaders and represents a chance to reaffirm commitment to multilateralism and renew global commitments to solving contemporary world problems.
The Presidency's statement says: 'The President's participation in these meetings aligns with Mozambique's efforts to strengthen international cooperation and participate in discussions on energy issues, sustainable development, and the main challenges of the global agenda, always taking Mozambique's interests as the common denominator.'
