In the match, Iran was led by Matin Aghajanour, who scored 21 points, while Zhenlin Pan from China finished the game with 22 points, which was the best performance for a Chinese player in the game.
Previously, the Iranian men's national team had not won a gold medal in basketball at the Asian Games. The Melli team had previously won silver medals twice in a row in 2014 and 2018, as well as three bronze medals in 1951, 2006, and 2010.
The final for gold will be between Japan and South Korea. The men's 5-on-5 basketball tournament at the 2026 Asian Games will take place in Kita-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 10 to 20.
