Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan agree to accelerate geological exploration in the Ustyurt blocks

The Ministers of Energy of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, Sherzod Khodjayev and Parviz Shahbazov, signed a roadmap in Baku that outlines the directions for expanding cooperation in the energy sector from 2026 to 2028. This document is intended to strengthen bilateral partnership and promote the development of joint initiatives.

Within this roadmap, the implementation of a project named 'Central Asia – Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor' is planned. The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan emphasized that the energy routes the country is developing through the Black Sea and towards Turkey will allow for the creation of a large-scale corridor for transporting clean electricity from Central Asia to Europe.

The parties also discussed issues of interaction in areas such as renewable energy sources, geological exploration, as well as oil and petroleum product supplies. Furthermore, the agreement included provisions on exchanging experience in thermal energy and improving energy efficiency. The critical importance of mutual investments for achieving the goals set by the heads of both countries was noted.

On the same day, Sherzod Khodjayev held a meeting with the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov. During the negotiations, they spoke with a representative of SOCAR, Rovshan Najaf. The main topics of discussion were plans to increase the number of SOCAR gas stations in Uzbekistan and the need to accelerate geological exploration work in the Ustyurt investment blocks.

Issues regarding the creation of new oil processing facilities and establishing the import of crude oil were also considered at this meeting. Participants analyzed the current progress of the projects and determined the necessary steps for quickly resolving emerging problems and effectively fulfilling commitments. It should be noted that Uzbekneftegaz, together with SOCAR, plans to create a network of modern gas stations in Uzbekistan.

Particular attention was paid to the significant role of the mahalla in implementing this process.

The parties also discussed the possibility of exchanging knowledge regarding support measures for people with disabilities and other population groups, and planned mutual visits and expert meetings. As a result of the negotiations, it was decided to further systematize and strengthen cooperation between the two states in the social sphere.
