Dubai-backed campaign provides water, education, and healthcare to village in Ghana

A global charitable campaign, supported by Dubai, has completed a major development program in a village in Ghana's Eastern Region. This program provided over 1000 residents with clean water, education, healthcare, food supplies, and opportunities for economic growth.

The '1 Billion Acts of Kindness' campaign was launched with the support of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Global Initiatives and the Varky Foundation, thanks to a strategic partnership between the '1 Billion Subscribers' Summit and Beast Industries, founded by Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast.

This significant milestone was announced during the fourth session of the '1 Billion Subscribers' Summit in January 2026. It highlighted the potential of using content creators and digital platforms to support long-term humanitarian and social development.

The project focused on five key areas: clean water, education, nutrition, health, and economic opportunities, forming, according to organizers, a comprehensive development model for the rural community.

Until now, the village, home to over 1062 people, faced limited access to basic sanitation, clean water, education, and medical care. The local population largely depends on cocoa farming, with the average household income estimated to be between $100 and $120 (367–440 dirhams).

Poverty also contributed to a high rate of child labor, reaching nearly 40 percent. Furthermore, during the cocoa harvest season, there was an increase in absenteeism among students in grades 4–9, as children left classes to work on farms.

Healthcare issues were another serious challenge: residents had to spend up to an hour traveling by motorcycle to reach basic medical services.

Alia Al Hammadi, Deputy Chair of the UAE State Media Authority and CEO of the '1 Billion Subscribers' Summit, noted that the project in Ghana reflects the summit's broader focus on leveraging digital media for social impact. She stated that the implementation of the comprehensive development model in Ghana's Eastern Region embodies the vision of the '1 Billion Subscribers' Summit—to stimulate the positive influence of the content and digital media industry, transforming this influence into a driver of development that solves humanitarian problems and changes community lives. According to her, the '1 Billion Acts of Kindness' campaign established a global model for how content creation can transform lives.

She added that this initiative, supported by UAE institutions and conducted jointly with MrBeast and the Varky Foundation, is also intended to encourage greater societal action. Al Hammadi emphasized that the campaign's success, achieved in collaboration with MrBeast and with the support of MBRGI and the Varky Foundation, sends a message of hope from the UAE to the world, inspiring collective action for development and instilling a culture of generosity to build a better future in all communities.

Development works included building classrooms for children from kindergarten to middle school, housing for teachers, school feeding programs, and facilities to improve access to clean water and sanitation. The project also installed handwashing stations and sanitary toilets, and efforts were made to raise awareness about child labor and the importance of children's education.

The opening of a new clinic was another important milestone, bringing medical care closer to families who previously had to travel long distances for treatment. The clinic is designed to facilitate early detection of diseases, including malaria and respiratory infections, while improving access to maternal and child health and reducing the financial and time burden on families.

Sunny Varky, founder of the Varky Foundation, stressed that education remains a central element of the broader transformation. He believes that education is the greatest gift because it transforms lives, families, and entire communities. In his view, what was achieved in Eastern Ghana under '1 Billion Acts of Kindness' demonstrates the possibilities unlocked by combining education, healthcare, and nutrition to remove barriers preventing children from learning and giving them a chance to build a better future.

He also noted that the partnership between charities and content creators can help expand the impact beyond the Ghanaian community. Varky stated that combining the efforts of philanthropic organizations with the exceptional reach of target content creators can inspire millions of people to become agents of change in their own communities and achieve positive change globally.

MrBeast utilized his digital platforms, which organizers estimate generate over 62 billion views annually and have an audience of over 1.1 billion subscribers, to lead this campaign alongside 20 international content creators selected during the fourth '1 Billion Subscribers' Summit. These creators worked with field teams on building facilities for schools and healthcare, as well as electricity and clean water infrastructure.

Campaign organizers reported that the goal was not just to provide individual services but to create a sustainable model of community development that could be replicated elsewhere. Donaldson noted that visiting the village showed the scale of the problems faced by residents living without access to healthcare or clean water. He stated that they understood the need to turn this village into a model of radical change.

He also mentioned that the initiative aims to use the reach of digital content to encourage others to take action in their local communities. Donaldson expressed hope that by using his platforms to create positive impact and change lives, they can inspire millions worldwide to become drivers of change in their communities.

The campaign will now present the story of the village's transformation to a global digital audience through behind-the-scenes content documenting the project. One of the featured videos details the creation of the clinic: from the initial lack of electricity and medical equipment in the community to the construction and opening of the clinic, which admitted 100 patients on its first day. Organizers reported that this content will be distributed through the MrBeast network and the combined reach of about 3000 creators in 180 countries, demonstrating how digital platforms can amplify humanitarian initiatives.
