To prepare eggless Hungarian tartlets, a number of ingredients are required. The base consists of 250 grams of butter, ¼ cup of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ¾ cup of powdered sugar, and ½ cup of cornstarch.
Next, add 2–3 cups of flour, as well as optionally ½ cup of coconut flakes and ¼ cup of sugar. Also needed is ½ – 1 bottle of fruit jam.
First, mix the first four specified ingredients until a creamy consistency is achieved. Then, gradually incorporate the cornstarch and flour into this mixture to form a soft and pliable dough.
Three quarters of the resulting dough should be evenly spread on a greased baking sheet. Jam is distributed over the dough, and then coconut flakes are sprinkled on top. The remaining quarter of the dough is grated over the jam and coconut flakes. Optionally, it can be sprinkled with sugar on top.
The tartlets should be baked for about 15 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius, or until lightly browned. After removing them from the oven, they are cut into squares; this is when you can check the degree of doneness. If they are not cooked enough, return them to the oven for a few more minutes. The finished tartlets must cool completely before being removed from the baking sheet.
