Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a meeting held in Nukus on September 19 that there are plans to launch a high-speed train between Tashkent and Nukus, scheduled for March 2027. This new route will reduce travel time from sixteen to seven hours.
Mirziyoyev noted that projects aimed at developing both social and transport infrastructure are continuing in Karakalpakstan. Among the completed facilities in the Bozatau district are a sanatorium, and in Nukus, an Oncology and Radiology Center has opened. Additionally, a children's hospital and maternity hospital were built in the Kungrad district.
Amphitheaters with a capacity of 2000 spectators each have also appeared in the Amudarya and Turtkul districts, while a gymnastics center and a conservatory branch are operating in Nukus.
On a 240-kilometer section of the international highway A-380 passing through the Kungrad district, a concrete pavement worth 384 million dollars was laid. Construction works valued at 233 million dollars have started on another 92 kilometers of the highway in the Turtkul, Ellikkalinsky, and Beruniy districts.
According to local authorities, after the completion of this project, the volume of transit traffic is expected to increase by one and a half times. The delivery time for goods from Turtkul to the border with Kazakhstan will be reduced from a full day to ten hours. Furthermore, the reconstruction of the 'Tuyamuyin' water treatment facility and the construction of a 100-kilometer pipeline connecting Kungrad with Muynak are planned.
During the meeting, the president emphasized the importance of utilizing Karakalpakstan's land, mineral, and energy resources to create high value-added products. To achieve this goal, the authorities will develop a new industrial and investment map based on the principle of 'from resource to finished product.'
The Kungrad—Karauzyak—Takhiatash route is envisioned as a 'green industrial corridor' and an 'intellectual economy triangle.' Six projects totaling 8 billion dollars are planned for implementation in a specially designated zone for artificial intelligence and data center related projects. Responsible structures have been instructed to prepare a five-year program and guarantee investors a stable power supply of 1 gigawatt.
Within three years, 1500 high-paying jobs are expected to be created in the cities of Nukus, Kungrad, Karauzyak, and Takhiatash. In addition, the authorities expect to increase the annual export of services in artificial intelligence and cloud technologies to 600 million dollars.
