In the villages of the Sharavasti district, Aanganwadi centers are ceasing to be mere places for children's gathering; they are evolving into full-fledged centers for child development, primary education, and nutritional support. These centers now offer educational materials, seating areas, and sports equipment. Journalists spent a day at the Kori Purva and Halifatpur centers in the Jamunha block to closely examine these changes alongside the workers, assistants, and beneficiaries.
Shalini Arya, an Aanganwadi center worker in Kori Purva, reported that upon arriving at the center at 8:00 AM, children receive lessons on songs, the alphabet, and seasonal aspects, with classes running until noon. Afterward, staff conduct house visits to beneficiaries until 1:00 PM, and from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, they handle record-keeping. Furthermore, the requirement for online work has increased, including data entry into the 'Poshan Tracker' application and photographing beneficiaries during ration distribution. According to Arya, significant improvements have occurred under Yogi's administration: children have been provided with sufficient chairs, various kits, and books. The installation of LCD screens is expected soon, which will allow for more online lessons. All these improvements have been made possible by the Yogi government.
Sarala Devi, an Aanganwadi center assistant in Kori Purva, stated that her workday begins with cleaning the premises, after which she gathers the children and leads a morning prayer, motivating them towards cleanliness. The employee also informs the children about the calendar and dates. Devi emphasized that under the current government, children receive all necessary basic facilities at the center.
Chameli Devi, a local resident and beneficiary in Kori Purva, noted that Aanganwadi provides rice and rations for children, which is happening under Modi's rule. Another local resident, Pinky Devi, a beneficiary, mentioned that rations are currently being distributed, whereas previously beans, oil, and rations were provided. She added that the children are learning and thanked the government.
When the camera turned to the children, it was evident how special the scene was: little Annya and Arya were naming themselves and attempting to teach other children. These early skills could form a strong foundation for their future education.
