Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced its ODI and T20 International squads for the tour of India. West Indies is scheduled to play a total of three ODIs and five T20 Internationals in India. All these matches will be held across eight different cities starting from September 27th until October 18th.
Shai Hope will lead the team in both the ODI and T20 series. The ODI squad largely comprises players who participated in the domestic series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Meanwhile, the T20 squad has been given opportunities to young players with future preparations in mind.
John Campbell, who was out of the last two ODIs against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury, has returned to the squad. On the other hand, Akeem Auguste will not be part of the India tour as his rehabilitation is ongoing following surgery. Jewel Andrew has been included in place of Auguste, who is considered an option for batting in the top and middle order.
Experienced batsman Shimron Hetmyer played in the last two matches of the previous series against New Zealand. He received extra time to recover after the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), which is why he is not in the ODI squad, but he will be part of the T20 series team.
The first two matches of the ODI series against India will be the final matches of the direct qualification cycle for the ODI World Cup 2027. However, the results of these matches will not be enough for West Indies to qualify directly. West Indies will have to secure a World Cup ticket through the qualification tournament next year.
Despite this, the team's head coach Darren Sammy described this series against India as very important. He stated that this tour will provide a good opportunity for the ODI team to work on its weaknesses.
Emerging batsman Kamil Pooran has been selected for the T20 team for the first time. West Indies has taken this step towards developing young talent while keeping in mind the preparation for the T20 World Cup 2028. Kamil performed excellently in this season of the CPL, scoring 273 runs in 8 innings with a strike rate of 159.64.
Quentin Sampson, who was part of the West Indies team in the T20 World Cup held in India this year, has been selected for the India tour. In contrast, experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has been rested from the five-match T20 series. Sammy clarified that the selection of the T20 team was not made only considering the current series, but the management's objective is to build a strong base of players before the next T20 World Cup.

The T20 squad includes Shai Hope (Captain), Jewel Andrew, Roston Chase, Matthew Ford, Shimron Hetmyer, Akil Hussain, Samar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Kimo Paul, Kamil Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Romario Shepherd, and Samar Springer.
The West Indies tour of India will follow this schedule: First ODI on September 27th (Trivandrum), Second ODI on September 30th (Guwahati), Third ODI on October 3rd (Mullanpur). First T20 on October 6th (Lucknow), Second T20 on October 9, 2026 (Ranchi), Third T20 on October 11, 2026 (Indore), Fourth T20 on October 14, 2026 (Hyderabad), and Fifth T20 on October 17, 2026 (Bengaluru).
