After-sex pills containing levonorgestrel may soon receive four prominent warnings. The government has proposed labeling these medications with a clear indication that they are intended exclusively for emergency use, and not for regular contraception, nor as means to terminate pregnancy or protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.
It was added that the proposed warnings are aimed not so much at creating fear around emergency contraception, but at ensuring women understand its true role as a backup method following contraceptive failure, rather than as a substitute for regular contraception or condoms.
