A video published by the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency on Saturday demonstrates an impressive sight of rare dolphins jumping on the shimmering surface of the ocean.
The phenomenon was witnessed by Shuaib Al Hokani, who initially shared the video of the sighting on September 8. His video garnered nearly 140,000 views and over 8,000 likes.
The Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency also reported that the emirate's waters are home to the world's largest population of Indian Ocean humpback dolphins.
Representatives of the authority noted: 'Observing their live movement in our emirate's waters reflects the rich marine biodiversity along our coasts and underscores the importance of protecting and conserving their natural habitat.'
It was recorded that at least six dolphins were diving and surfacing from the sparkling waters, crossing the person filming the event. The Agency also appealed to those who were 'lucky enough' to spot these dolphins, asking them to observe them from a safe distance and not disturb their natural behavior.
This is not the first instance of such marine fauna being recorded in the waters of Abu Dhabi. Last year, several Bryde's whales gathered in one spot, which was the first documented case of collective whale feeding in the Arabian Gulf.
Although Bryde's whales regularly visit the Gulf waters, the authority clarified that this was the first observation of multiple individuals gathering in one place specifically for feeding.
