Iran's experience in implementing and operating the Maritime Single Window (MSW), as well as the capabilities of the Integrated Maritime Transport Management System (IMAS), were presented at a specialized and technical regional meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held in Georgia. The presentation attracted the attention of the organization's experts and representatives from regional countries.
According to an IRNA report from Saturday, the IMO regional meeting on the topic of implementing the Maritime Single Window took place in Batumi, Georgia, in September 2026. Representatives from the Caspian and Black Sea regions attended the event, including Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Romania.
At this meeting, the Islamic Republic of Iran, represented by Soheila Shibani-Moghadam, Senior ICT and Smart Ports Expert, and Hossein Sedighi, Head of Port Affairs Department of Bushehr Port from the Port and Maritime Organization, detailed the process of implementing the Maritime Single Window in the country. Iran's technical experience and achievements in the field of digitalization of maritime services were demonstrated.
One of the central points of Iran's presentation was the Integrated Maritime Transport Management System (IMAS), a national system developed by domestic specialists. The meeting highlighted the system's ability to provide maritime services and ensure electronic data exchange with stakeholders, which complies with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization and data exchange standards within the Maritime Single Window.
Iran's presentation, focused on practical experience and the country's internal capabilities for implementing MSW, received a positive reaction from IMO experts and delegates from participating countries. Particular emphasis was placed on the internal development of the system and its electronic nature of interaction with stakeholders.
The implementation of the Maritime Single Window became mandatory on January 1, 2024, in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization and amendments to the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL). This requirement concerns the electronic exchange of information related to the arrival and departure of vessels in the ports of member states. Thus, Iran's experience in this area is part of the country's ports transition to smart services, data integration, and simplification of maritime and port processes.
The working session also covered topics such as data standardization, electronic information exchange between stakeholder agencies, FAL Convention requirements, IMO Summaries, national approaches to developing the Maritime Single Window and Port Community Systems (PCS), as well as directions for regional cooperation.
Another significant aspect of Iran's participation in this event was the active stance and involvement of an Iranian female expert at the international specialized meeting on modern maritime technologies. This presence, alongside the demonstration of the country's technical achievements, reflects the professional potential of Iranian women in the field of maritime navigation and marine technologies.
