Construction of a new district for 50 thousand residents has begun in Nukus

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced the start of construction of a new urban district in Nukus. This district, named Yangi Uzbekistan-Nukus City, is located in the Ashshikol district and is intended to accommodate 50 thousand people.

During a meeting dedicated to the socio-economic development of Karakalpakstan in Nukus, Mirziyoyev stated that high-rise buildings, service centers, commercial and trade areas, as well as green zones will be built on an area of 270 hectares. Furthermore, foreign investors are planned to be attracted to implement investment projects in the new district.

In addition, the president noted that Mustaqillik Street in Nukus has turned into a 24-hour operation zone. Over the past week, trade turnover on this street doubled after 28 entrepreneurs started working there, and another 50 expanded their activities.

Mirziyoyev instructed officials to improve the Nur and Elabad mahallas using the experience of the Kichrikirik mahalla in the Almazar district, and also to create a modern public space in the local park before the celebration of Nowruz.

He also reported that work has begun in Kegeyli to cover an irrigation canal spanning 3.5 kilometers and to build 100 service sector facilities, which will create 320 jobs. According to Mirziyoyev, leaders of other regions were instructed to implement similar projects, including one mahalla and one central street in their assigned districts by Nowruz.

The President suggested that residents themselves should evaluate the renovated streets and mahallas, and if approved by the residents, the streets could be named after the regions responsible for their improvement.
