September 19, 2007, will forever remain in the memory of world cricket, as it was on this day that the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh achieved a historic feat by hitting six consecutive sixes in one over against English fast bowler Stuart Broad. It has been 19 years since this momentous occasion.
This episode occurred during the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2007 between India and England at the Kingsmead ground in Durban. In the 19th over, Stuart Broad faced Yuvraj, who was only 21 years old at the time.
The first delivery was sent by Yuvraj over deep mid-wicket, the second over backward square leg, the third over deep extra cover, the fourth to deep point, the fifth again over mid-wicket, and the last was powerfully hit over long-on. As a result, six sixes were hit off six balls, totaling 36 runs in one over.
Prior to this, Yuvraj had a dispute with English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, after which England captain Paul Collingwood entrusted the 19th over to young Stuart Broad. However, this over turned into a nightmare for Broad, as Yuvraj amazed the cricketing world with his powerful attack, hitting sixes all over the field.
In this match, Yuvraj also demonstrated incredible speed, completing a half-century in just 12 balls, which was the fastest half-century in international cricket at that time. It is worth noting that approximately two weeks earlier, on September 5, 2007, Dimitri Mascarenhas from England hit five sixes in an over against Yuvraj. Furthermore, thanks to the six sixes against Stuart Broad, Yuvraj Singh became the first player in T20 International history to hit six sixes in an over in a single match. Before him, Herschelle Gibbs had already hit six sixes in an over in an ODI against the Netherlands in 2007.
