During an international summit on ecology and climate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an important statement, noting that per capita carbon emissions in India are significantly lower than the global average. He reported that over the last twelve years, solar capacity has increased from 2 gigawatts to over 160 gigawatts, enabling the installation of solar panels on the roofs of 50 lakh homes, and demonstrating India's early fulfillment of commitments made under the Paris Agreement.
Modi emphasized that per capita carbon emissions in developed countries are six times higher than those in India. The Prime Minister insists on this fact on global platforms and called upon every Indian citizen to demonstrate their resolve. According to him, India is setting new standards for environmental safety by uniting the efforts of the entire world.
He mentioned initiatives such as One World One Grid, the International Solar Alliance, CDR, Global Biofuel Alliance, International Big Cat Alliance, and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). Modi believes that all these platforms serve as confirmation of India's firm commitment to climate and environmental issues. Today's India is moving forward, combining ancient ideas of nature conservation with modern thinking.
In the last twelve years, outstanding progress has been achieved in various sectors, with significant government attention focused on renewable energy, which has played a key role in environmental protection. Modi noted that India is the only country in the G20 group that has fulfilled all obligations adopted at COP21 in Paris ahead of schedule. India is actively discussed across all parameters: from greenhouse gas emission reduction to the development of solar capacity and the use of non-fossil fuels.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli program, homes are becoming power generation centers. More than 50 lakh homes are equipped with panels, exceeding the total number of households in many countries worldwide. The government has provided assistance to each household up to 80,000 rupees. Furthermore, under the Kusum scheme, solar pumps have been installed on the fields of 30 lakh farmers. The One Nation One Grid project has been completed, and millions of homes have received LED bulbs. Only through solar energy has it been possible to prevent the emission of about 200 million tons of carbon. Solar energy has tripled its capacity, and hydropower has also significantly increased.
