Curry leaves, also known as sweet neem, are an important part of both everyday and gourmet dishes, but they can also help improve appearance. Meanwhile, bitter neem is valued in Ayurveda as a treasure trove of medicinal properties. Combining these two ingredients allows you to prepare a homemade powder that can be very beneficial.
This powder can be used twice a week by applying it to the face or mixing it with other components for a hair mask, leading to noticeable changes in skin and hair condition in just a few days.
Bitter neem is rich in antibacterial and antifungal properties, helping to eliminate pimples, skin spots, and dandruff. On the other hand, sweet neem (curry), thanks to its content of beta-carotene and antioxidants, helps keep hair black, thick, and prevents hair loss.
Commercially available neem powder often contains impurities and increased moisture. If you aim for flawless skin and strong hair without using chemical additives, you can easily make fresh powder from sweet and bitter neem at home and store it for months.
- Neem leaves — 2 cups (fresh and clean)
- Curry leaves — 2 cups (fresh and clean)
First, separate the neem leaves from the stems and wash them thoroughly with cold water 2-3 times to completely remove dust. Then, spread the washed leaves on a clean cotton cloth and dry them in the wind or in the shade for 1-2 days. It is important to avoid drying under strong direct sunlight, as this reduces the content of natural oils and properties.
If there is slight moisture remaining in the leaves, they should be roasted over low heat in a heavy pot without oil for one minute until crispy. After the leaves are completely crisp, they must be ground in a dry blender. The resulting powder should be sifted through a fine sieve to separate the soft and fine particles. This fresh herbal powder should be stored in a dry, airtight glass jar; it does not spoil for 6 months.
For a facial mask (radiant and flawless skin): Mix 1 teaspoon of neem-curry powder with 1 teaspoon of yogurt or rose water and a pinch of turmeric. Apply the mixture to the face and rinse after 15 minutes; pimples and spots will disappear.
For a hair mask (thick hair and dandruff-free scalp): Mix 2 teaspoons of this powder with a small amount of coconut oil or aloe vera gel and apply to the roots (scalp). Rinse with mild shampoo after 30 minutes; dandruff will go away, and hair loss will stop.
