Tong Xiaolin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that the holistic and preventive approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers valuable ideas for global healthcare.
He explained that TCM possesses a holistic therapeutic perspective that is not limited to considering a single indicator in isolation but always takes it into account within the context of the whole person.
Furthermore, there is the principle of 'treating the disease before it occurs.' For example, some metabolic and multiple metabolic disorders can eventually lead to vascular problems. Traditional Chinese doctors intervene at an early stage by influencing 'luo,' or collateral issues, even before retinal damage from diabetes or kidney damage is detected.
According to Tong, these two aspects of TCM's therapeutic philosophy hold particular value for study by the global community.
