At the OPPO developer conference held on September 17th in Zhuhai, the company introduced ColorOS 17, positioning it as an on-device artificial intelligence operating system rather than merely a visual update. OPPO announced that ColorOS is now used by over 770 million monthly active users across more than 90 markets. The first synchronized update will be available for devices from OPPO, OnePlus, and realme.
ColorOS 17 is planned for initial release on the Find X10 series and OnePlus 16 models, and this system will extend to phones, tablets, wearables, automobiles, and smart home equipment. The central element is the On-Device Compute computational pillar—a large model developed based on its proprietary Linear Attention architecture.
OPPO asserts that this model provides native context support up to 128K while reducing memory consumption by approximately 48% and power consumption by 55% compared to the previous generation. This aims to create privacy-preserving, low-latency assistants that function directly on the phone itself. The Persona X system, described as a memory co-evolution mechanism, tracks data signals, environmental cues, and behavior, allowing the system to remember, forget, and analyze long-term interactions instead of resetting after each session.
The Agent Matrix enhances the Breeno assistant's brain by increasing the context window and improving intent recognition. OPPO noted a 19% increase in satisfaction with the Breeno beta version due to the collaboration between the device and the cloud. Daily features include access to nearly 200 Alipay services in a single prompt, route planning via Tencent Map, and the ability to communicate or send messages through WeChat.
Breeno Suggestions collaborates with over 40 third-party services within more than 700 micro-scenarios, demonstrating OPPO's claimed 95% prediction accuracy through its sensor swarm system. Regarding the user interface, the Aurora Engine unifies rendering, which allows for an approximate 30% reduction in rendering load and a peak launch memory of 25%. The Tide Engine personalizes activity retention, increasing full application retention by 55.6% compared to the previous release. Fluid Design integrates the lock screen, Dynamic Island-style surfaces, and home screen transitions into one continuous motion without sacrificing fluidity for spectacle. The essence of the product lies in the OS's proactive intelligence—On-Device Linear Attention, Persona X memory, and the agent matrix—rather than just launching a new phone model.
