Uzbekistan's metro network reached 71.2 km in length as of January 1, 2026

Uzbekistan has demonstrated an improvement in its positions in the global internet speed ranking, Speedtest Global Index. In August, the country improved its rankings in both mobile and fixed internet segments, achieving first place among CIS states for wired connection speed.

According to the Ministry of Digital Technologies, the average data transfer speed in mobile internet increased from 62.42 to 65.27 Mbps over the last month. Thanks to this, Uzbekistan advanced in the world ranking from 75th to 72nd place.

Over the past five years, the country has achieved a gain of 65 positions in mobile internet speed. Furthermore, since the beginning of 2026, there has been a significant acceleration of mobile internet, with the average download speed increasing by 27% over eight months, reaching a level from 51.42 to 65.27 Mbps.

Positive dynamics have also been recorded in fixed networks: the corresponding indicator increased from 94.23 to 94.50 Mbps. Compared to the figures recorded in December 2025, Uzbekistan rose in the world ranking from 76th to 73rd place.

According to data from the National Statistical Committee, the share of residents of Uzbekistan aged 10 and older who use the internet was 97.3% during the period from January to August 2026.

The results of household surveys indicate a significant increase in this indicator: over the last five years, it has risen by 20.7 percentage points. In 2021, the level of internet usage among the corresponding age group was 76.6%.

Subsequent years also showed a steady growth in the number of users. In 2022, the figure reached 83.9%, in 2023—89%, and in 2024—93.3%.

In 2025, the share of the population over 10 years old using the internet increased to 94.6%. During the period from January to August 2026, this indicator rose by another 2.7 percentage points, reaching 97.3%.

Thus, over the entire period from 2021 to January–August 2026, the share of internet users among the population of Uzbekistan over 10 years old grew from 76.6% to 97.3%.

A new transit railway route has opened between China and Iran, passing through the countries of Central Asia. The container train, consisting of 55 containers, will travel through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to reach Iran.

The entire journey, which exceeds 6 thousand kilometers, is estimated to take about two weeks. The organization of this container train transport from China to the Islamic Republic of Iran was carried out with the assistance of JSC 'Uztemiryulcontainer'.

The composition was formed at Chenxiang station in China. These 55 containers are transporting various consolidated goods, including components for passenger cars and consumer goods.

The train reached Kazakhstan, passing through the Khorgos – Altynkol border crossing. On September 7, it was dispatched from Altynkol station to continue its journey. Next, the consist will cross the Keles border crossing and enter the territory of Uzbekistan.

After transiting through Uzbekistan, the train will head to Turkmenistan via the border station Khodjadavlet. The final destination of the route is Iran, where the train must pass through the Sarrahs border station.

The total length of this route is over 6 thousand kilometers, and the expected delivery time for the cargo is estimated at 14–16 days. The launch of this 'China — Central Asia — Iran' corridor demonstrates the growing practical significance of rail transport. Furthermore, the project opens up prospects for regular container shipments in the region and contributes to the development of Uzbekistan's transit potential.

Previously, Uzbekistan introduced a new export format to Afghanistan, allowing goods to be transported in containers under the tariffs of closed railway wagons, which helps businesses avoid unnecessary expenses.
