Tata Electronics announced the signing of five strategic agreements at the SEMICON India 2026 event. The partners include Sumitomo Chemical, Kelington, Enomoto, Sojitz Corporation, NRS CORPORATION, and L&T Semiconductor.
According to Tata Electronics, the memorandum of understanding with the Japanese company Sumitomo Chemical aims to strengthen the semiconductor materials ecosystem in India. This will be achieved through the supply of high-quality semiconductor materials and the exploration of local production of high-purity chemicals in India.
Under this collaboration, Sumitomo will supply semiconductor materials, including photoresists, functional chemicals, and high-purity chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, aqueous ammonia, and sulfuric acid, to the upcoming Tata Electronics plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Furthermore, Tata Electronics will support Sumitomo Chemical in exploring the production of semiconductor materials and high-purity chemicals in India.
Tata Electronics will also collaborate with Kellington, a Malaysian provider of integrated engineering solutions. The goal of this partnership is to accelerate the operational readiness of the Tata Electronics plant in Dholera, Gujarat, through the implementation of critical infrastructure, systems integration, and engineering capabilities. The parties will also look into developing local talent and advanced engineering competencies in design and construction in India.
This alliance reflects both companies' shared commitment to supporting the growing semiconductor manufacturing capacity in India and will be a key factor in the timely completion of the Dholera plant project, as stated.
Working with the Japanese firm Enomoto, Tata Electronics intends to strengthen the semiconductor packaging ecosystem in India. This will be done by supporting packaging readiness at the Jagirod facility in Assam and studying the localization of lead frame production, which will strengthen the internal supply chain for a critical semiconductor packaging component. The partnership will also assess opportunities for technology transfer, engineering collaboration, and capacity building, contributing to the creation of an integrated and sustainable semiconductor value chain in India.
Tata Electronics is building the first large-scale, proprietary packaging facility in India at Jagirod, Assam, with investments amounting to $3 billion.
Meanwhile, Sojitz Corporation and NRS CORPORATION are joining forces to create a semiconductor material supply chain that will support the future Tata Electronics factory in Dholera, Gujarat. This partnership aligns with the Government of India's vision for developing a strong semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the country, according to the press release.
The alliance with L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited aims to build in-house design and manufacturing capabilities to support next-generation products across the automotive, industrial, telecom, security, and intelligent edge sectors. This collaboration merges L&T Semiconductor's fabless design innovations with Tata Electronics' capabilities in semiconductor packaging and manufacturing to promote domestic chip production. Both companies will jointly explore the possibilities of fabricating and packaging chips for L&T Semiconductor's current and future products using Tata Electronics' technological processes and packaging solutions, while also incorporating chip design optimization before manufacturing with an emphasis on ensuring efficient mass production.
