Buyers Resell iPhones 18 in Dubai with Premiums Up to 3000 Dirhams Upon Purchase

Interest in iPhones reached its peak in Dubai on Friday morning when buyers began reselling newly acquired iPhone 18 models with markups of up to 3000 dirhams within hours of sales opening across the UAE.

Journalists from Khaleej Times visited an Apple store in Dubai on Friday morning and found that customers who had placed pre-orders with Apple were already queuing to sell their new gadgets at a significant markup, while other buyers were still waiting in line.

As soon as buyers left Apple stores across the UAE with their new phones, resellers immediately appeared to purchase them.

Most resellers managed to acquire iPhone 18 Pro variants with 256GB and 512GB storage, with the new burgundy color proving to be the most sought-after.

One seller near an Apple store in Mall of the Emirates told Khaleej Times: 'I will take an extra 2000 dirhams for an iPhone 18 Pro 256GB in burgundy.'

Two buyers who successfully placed pre-orders offered 8000 dirhams for an iPhone 18 Pro 256GB in burgundy—which is approximately 3000 dirhams above the phone's retail price of 5099 dirhams.

Another seller listed his iPhone 18 Pro 256GB for 5600 dirhams, and the Pro Max 256GB for 6500 dirhams.

The base price for the iPhone 18 256GB model is 5099 dirhams, while the Pro Max starts from 5499 dirhams. Storage options are available up to 2TB, with corresponding prices reaching 10199 and 10599 dirhams.

Apple also offers a trade-in program allowing buyers to receive a credit of 160 to 3260 dirhams toward a new device, depending on the condition and model of their current phone.

These scenes reflected the anticipation that had been building since pre-orders opened last Saturday, when retailers told Khaleej Times that buyers were willing to pay up to 1500 dirhams over the price to get the new models sooner, with the burgundy color already being considered the most attractive choice.

Industry sources also suggested that any such premium usually decreases within the first few days after launch as supply begins to meet demand.

iPhone 18 Pro launch in UAE: Tips for selling old phone models

With the arrival of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 18th, many residents are wondering whether they should sell their old phones now or wait. Traders in Deira note that prices for used iPhones are likely to decrease after the new models appear.

Ashraf, owner of a mobile shop in Deira, stated that prices for used iPhones usually face pressure when a new model hits the market. He predicts that some models might lose about 10 percent of their value within approximately a week. For example, he gives the example: a good iPhone 17 Pro Max currently costs around Dh3,300, but after the iPhone 18 is released, the price could drop to around Dh3,000.

However, not all models will lose value. Ashraf added that the iPhone 16 Pro Max remains in high demand, and its availability is limited, so its price may remain high or even increase.

Residents of the UAE were able to place pre-orders for the new iPhone 18 series on Saturday, September 12th. Availability for pickup is scheduled for September 18th. Additionally, Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, will be available for pre-order in October.

Murshid, another trader from Deira, emphasized that battery condition plays a significant role in determining the value. He reported that if the battery health is around 80 percent, the offer might be about 15–20 percent lower.

Physical damage also reduces the price for sellers. Screen replacement can lower the cost by about Dh350, and battery replacement by about Dh300. Even visible scratches can lead to a price reduction of about Dh200.

Murshid also noted that a phone with a battery health level of around 95 percent, in good condition, with the original box and cable, will always be offered at a more favorable price.

Arshad, owner of a mobile shop in Times Square Center Dubai, stated that demand for the iPhone 18 series, especially the foldable Duo, is already high. He expects that prices for used phones will definitely fall after the model launches in the UAE, as many people prefer to trade in their old devices to take advantage of Apple discounts.

Apple trade-in program prices range from Dh160 to over Dh3,000, depending on the model. Murshid agreed that sometimes trading in might be more profitable than direct cash sale, and this depends on the model and the device's condition.
