The government of Uzbekistan intends to adjust its position in the film industry. It is planned that instead of acting as a client who interferes with the creative process, the state will serve as a strategic partner, providing necessary financial support for the development of the sector.
This initiative was announced by Saida Mirziyev, head of the Presidential Administration, after visiting 'Uzbekfilm'. According to her, private studios, independent authors, and producers should be the driving force behind the development of the film industry.
It is planned to modernize the entire production chain, covering stages from film creation to its screening for the audience. This includes improving financing, distribution, exhibition, participation in international festivals, and export processes. Furthermore, strengthening work on the restoration and digitization of national cinematic heritage, as well as raising the level of personnel training and establishing international experience exchange, is provided for.
'Uzbekfilm' itself is envisioned as a core center and a national brand of modern Uzbek cinema. During Saida Mirziyeva's visit, she also inspected a film set where a historical film about the youth of Abu Ali ibn Sina was being shot, and wished the team success in their work.
It was previously noted that 'Uzbekfilm' has fully settled its tax debt, which amounted to over 1 billion soms. The studio also returned twelve vehicles that were previously slated for auction due to outstanding debt.
