There is a rapid increase in dengue and malaria cases observed in the capital city of Delhi amid humidity and rains. In the first twelve days of September alone, 121 cases of dengue were registered, which is the highest figure for any month this year.

According to data from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the total number of dengue cases this year has reached 432. Of these, 121 cases are exclusively from September, accounting for more than a quarter of all cases registered this year. An additional 71 new dengue patients were identified in the last week. Nevertheless, these figures are lower than last year, when 619 cases were recorded during a similar period in 2025 and 709 in 2024. On a positive note, there have been no reported deaths from dengue in Delhi so far.

The situation with malaria is also worsening: 183 cases of malaria have been registered in Delhi this year, 64 of which were detected in September. Furthermore, 24 cases of chikungunya have been recorded this year, compared to 46 cases during the same period last year. Only two cases of chikungunya have been found in September so far.

The MCD reported that its teams inspected over 27.9 million homes this year. As a result of the inspections, larval stages of mosquitoes were found in 147 thousand homes. Over 110 thousand legal notices were issued in cases where conditions for insect breeding were discovered. Additionally, 11,943 cases were prosecuted, and a fine exceeding 15.59 million rupees was collected.

To prevent dengue, it is recommended not to leave items around the house that can accumulate water, such as pots, coolers, water containers, broken dishes, or old tires. It is also advisable to wear long-sleeved clothing and use insect repellent if necessary. If symptoms appear, such as high fever, headache, body aches, pain behind the eyes, or severe weakness, one should consult a doctor instead of self-medicating.

There is a rapid rise in dengue incidence in West Bengal. According to the Health Department, by September 11, the number of positive cases among patients reached 5002.

The Murshidabad district has been the hardest hit. The Medical Department published statistics for the period from August 6 to September 11, according to which the number of dengue cases more than doubled in approximately one month. If 2410 cases were registered on August 6, this figure increased to 5002 by September 11.

Murshidabad recorded the highest number of dengue cases—1072 people. This is followed by Kolkata, where over 500 cases were registered. A significant number of cases were also noted in the districts of Uttar 24 Parganas (450 cases), Nadia (over 400 patients), and Malda (about 400 cases). In Uttar 24 Parganas, 366 positive cases were identified.

According to the Health Department data, 325 cases were registered in Howrah, and 325 people were confirmed with the disease in Hooghly. In East Bardhaman, 256 cases were recorded by September 11, and in West Bardhaman—154 cases. 126 patients were identified in East Medinipur, and 104 in West Medinipur. So far, 54 cases have been registered in Dadgram.

The rate of increase in morbidity in the state is very high. If there were 2410 cases on August 6, the number reached 5002 after about five weeks, meaning an increase in morbidity by more than double. The Health Department reports that the total number of dengue tests conducted in the state was 6826, of which 5002 were positive. The highest concentration of cases is observed in Murshidabad, followed by Kolkata and other affected districts.
