The return of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya to the Indian team is not entirely clear at this time, as the team management does not wish to risk his physical condition. Head coach Gautam Gurwir clearly stated on Thursday that Hardik is currently unable to complete the quota of 10 overs in the ODI format.
Gurwir emphasized that the team will not rush Hardik's return to international cricket. He also hinted that once Hardik is fully recovered for bowling, the Indian squad will have the opportunity to utilize him alongside young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
These comments were made by Gurwir after India defeated Afghanistan by 127 runs in the third T20. He reiterated that Hardik Pandya cannot bowl 10 overs right now, and they do not want to bring him into international cricket hastily. He noted that upon recovery, Hardik and Nitish can play together.
Hardik was long an important part of India's limited-overs format, but due to fitness and workload concerns, he has been under constant monitoring. Currently, the management's focus is specifically on his bowling ability. These statements were made by Gurwir after the series victory against Afghanistan with a score of 3-0.
Return not only as a batsman
Gurwir's statement indicates that Hardik's return will not be based solely on his batting skills. The team aims to use him as an all-rounder capable of making a significant contribution with the ball.
Hardik has been included in the India A squad for the upcoming ODI series in Puducherry against Australia A. However, his participation depends on final clearance for physical fitness issued by the BCCI's Centre of Excellence. At present, the team management is not rushing to make decisions regarding Hardik; his entry into international cricket is directly linked to his overall physical condition and, specifically, his ability to bowl 10 overs.
