Geely is developing a new compact electric hatchback with the codename E211, aiming to expand its market share and compete directly with the BYD Dolphin Mini.
This model, which was recently spotted during tests in China, will be positioned as a smaller and more affordable option compared to the Geely EX2. Due to the camouflage under which the prototype was photographed, its launch is not expected in the near future, and Geely has not officially disclosed the name of this new vehicle; some portals suggest it might be named EX1, but this remains speculation.
The captured images reveal a square-shaped hatchback design, raised body, flat roof, and rounded headlights. The vehicle will have a length under four meters, placing it between the Panda EV and EX2 models. For comparison, the Dolphin Mini measures 3.78 m in length, while the EX2 measures 4.14 m.
Although Geely has not yet released details on the powertrain or battery configurations, the footage suggests that the new hatchback will feature rear-wheel drive, a characteristic shared with the EX2. Furthermore, the suspension will be a multi-link type, considered more advanced than the torsion beam used by the Dolphin Mini.
In the interior, the prototype features seats upholstered in synthetic leather with a two-tone finish. The gear lever is located on the steering column, and the center console appears to replicate the same physical buttons found in the EX2.
This launch represents a strategy by the automaker to increase its competitiveness in the market and challenge its direct rivals. The E211 is seen as a more direct competitor to the Dolphin Mini, which currently holds an advantage over the EX2 in markets such as Brazil. According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), BYD registered 51,244 registrations between January and August 2026, surpassing the 24,482 registered by Geely.
