The Iranian navy reported that the vessel involved in the dispute is the tanker 'Trend,' which was 'intercepted and detained after catching fire' during an attempt to illegally cross the Strait of Hormuz.
In social media, the armed forces stated that the ship attempted to pass 'through incitement and deception of United States Army forces' and threatened the 'destruction' of any vessel attempting to illegally transit the strait.
Some time earlier, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) registered a 'security incident' in the waters of the strait, at a distance of 16 thousand nautical miles (about 30 kilometers) northeast of Hasab, Oman.
This body, associated with the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, issued a warning about an 'attack' that did not result in crew casualties or cause 'environmental impact.' It added: 'Authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to exercise caution during transit and inform UKMTO of any suspicious activity.'
Since the war in Iran began, following attacks conducted jointly by the United States and Israel on February 28, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has already recorded 80 attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and its vicinity. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least 22 sailors and numerous injuries, according to an organization representative.
Furthermore, attacks in the Red Sea have resumed, and four deaths were confirmed on August 11 as a result of a recent Houthi attack on a commercial vessel.
