A night Mahapanchayat of farmers was organized in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday under the leadership of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). The meeting took place at the field of the State International College, and it was attended not only by farmers from Muzaffarnagar but also by a large number of rural residents from neighboring districts. According to available information, this was the first such night Mahapanchayat in Uttar Pradesh.
Farmer leaders, including Rakesh Tikait and Naresh Tikait, along with several other BKU officials, were present during this Mahapanchayat. Farmers discussed numerous issues, including increasing the price of sugarcane, electricity supply problems, the MSP guarantee law, and the increase in land revenue value. Issues concerning farmers cultivating potatoes, sugarcane, and wheat were also raised.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait stated that the farmers' struggle can be waged not only during the day but also at night. He emphasized that this night Mahapanchayat serves as a form of training for farmers and activists. Cultural programs were also conducted during the event.
During the Mahapanchayat, Tikait warned the government that it must pay attention to the farmers' problems, otherwise protests will follow. He announced that similar gatherings would be held in every district in the future. Tikait reiterated that the key issues for the farmers are increasing the price of sugarcane, ensuring electricity, the MSP guaranteed price law, and the rise in land revenue value. He mentioned sugar prices, noting that while the issue of increasing sugarcane prices is being raised, the discussion about raising prices for other commodities is not as active.
In connection with this event, the police and administration were on high alert. Police forces were deployed at the field and in surrounding areas. Rakesh Tikait stated that the ideological revolution is a great world revolution, and BKU will strive to bring about change among farmers through ideas.
