The English Football Association (English FA) has called upon FIFA President Gianni Infantino to provide all documentation related to the cancelled plan to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.
Infantino's proposal was quickly halted due to strong negative reaction from the sports community, leading the European governing body UEFA to threaten boycotting all FIFA competitions until the plan was abandoned.
FA Chair Debbie Hewitt, who is also a Vice-President of FIFA and a member of the FIFA Council, sent a letter to Infantino requesting full disclosure of all information pertaining to this scheme before the next FIFA Council meeting scheduled for October 15.
Furthermore, Hewitt demanded the publication of documents related to the decision to suspend the ban imposed on US forward Folarin Balogun during the World Cup. This decision followed a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Infantino.
Infantino apologized for the process involving the private investor plan in August, and a statement from the FIFA board promised an investigation, but at no point was it confirmed who would conduct this review.
UEFA stated that it had 'lost confidence' in Infantino and filed lawsuits in the American judicial system to gain access to documents concerning the private investor plan.
UEFA also committed to finding a worthy candidate to challenge Infantino at the FIFA Congress in March, with the deadline for nominations set for November 18. Earlier this month, Infantino confirmed his intention to run for re-election.
