Uzbekistan explores opportunities to export fruits and vegetables to the USA through the Costco Wholesale network

The Food Safety Committee reported that Uzbekistan is considering the prospects of supplying products from local producers—fruits and vegetables—to the US market through the retail chain Costco Wholesale.

Negotiations are currently underway with Costco Wholesale regarding the supply of goods grown and produced in Uzbekistan, with the support of the Uzbek representation in the United States.

Requirements for Entering the US Market

To successfully enter the American market, companies must register with the FDA, possess international certificates, and guarantee stable supplies of products in the required volumes. Furthermore, exported goods must comply with phytosanitary standards.

For the supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, there is an additional requirement—ensuring a continuous cold chain. The absence of this system can lead to product spoilage and reduced quality during long-distance transportation.

Currently, a list of local producers and exporters willing to cooperate with Costco is being compiled. Companies that meet the established criteria and are interested in entering the US market can fill out a special questionnaire.
