Special edition Switch 2 of Zelda appears on resale market above US$ 850

The Nintendo Switch 2 console with the special edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is already being traded by currency dealers for values exceeding US$ 850, even before reaching stores.

This special version was created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise and is being announced on the secondary market with prices surpassing US$ 850. The official cost of the console is US$ 520, which implies an increase of at least US$ 330, representing a premium of over 60%.

The edition was revealed during the Zelda Direct event, and pre-orders began immediately afterward. Quickly, the available stock in major American retailers, such as Walmart, Target, and Best Buy, sold out.

The new Switch 2 integrates the 40th-anniversary celebrations of The Legend of Zelda and will accompany the release of the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was originally released for the Nintendo 64. The console features details and finishes inspired by the franchise and is scheduled for release on October 29, while the Ocarina of Time remake is expected to launch on November 5.

The combination of being a limited edition and being linked to one of Nintendo's most popular franchises rapidly boosted demand for the device, paving the way for speculation in the resale market. Shortly after the start of pre-orders, units began to be listed on eBay for around US$ 850 or more.

This price disparity is notable: for the price charged by some resellers, the buyer could acquire the console at the official price and still have a difference of over US$ 300. However, this does not guarantee that all items listed at these values are actually being sold, as the prices reflect what resellers try to charge, and not necessarily what consumers are willing to pay.

For those who could not secure a pre-order, there is still a possibility of purchase. New supplies may appear at official points of sale and in Nintendo's physical stores until the arrival of the special edition.
