Piso Mosimane expands Bafana Bafana squad leaders group, including Orlando Pirates player

It is reported that the Safa team is close to signing Arthur Zwein as Pitso Mosimane's second assistant in the 'Bafana Bafana' national team.

Mosimane took over the team leadership at the beginning of this month, replacing Hugo Bruus. He quickly brought on board trusted staff members Musi Matlaba and Kabelo Rangoa, who will continue to share their experience as analyst and physical fitness coach, respectively.

The former 'Mamelodi Sundowns' coach further strengthened his technical team by appointing Moren Ramoreboli as his first assistant after he left the position of head coach of the Botswana national team.

News emerging this week indicates that Zwein is ready to join Mosimane's team on a part-time basis. According to available information, he will continue to lead the 'AmaZulu' team while fulfilling the duties of Mosimane's second assistant. Furthermore, he will oversee the work of the U23 youth team, helping integrate young players into the senior squad.

Zwein has experience working with youth. His impressive period at 'AmaZulu' was a result of nurturing young talents and helping them adapt to the high demands of professional football.

He began his coaching career in the youth structures of 'Kaizer Chiefs', where he played an important role in promoting young players who subsequently moved to Europe or became full members of the senior team.

If Zwein takes this position, he returns to the 'Bafana' squad, as he previously worked as an assistant to the current technical director Molefe Ntseki.

Much has changed since then—after Bruus qualified the team for two continental tournaments in a row and for the World Cup, where they historically reached the 32nd round. Therefore, Mosimane is under pressure to maintain this momentum.

Mosimane will begin his term with the CAF Confederation Cup qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on September 30, and four days later he will meet Eritrea at the neutral Al-Salam stadium in Cairo. Then 'Bafana' will conclude the international window with a friendly match against Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium on October 4.

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams continues to prove his mastery as the best team leader. Although there will come a time when he stops being the captain of Bafana Bafana, for now, the country must support him because he embodies a true leader.

Williams helped the Mamelodi Sundowns team defeat Milford with a score of 2-0, kept the goal clean, and received the man of the match award. This victory allowed the 'Brazilians' to level the score with Premier League leaders Orlando Pirates at 13 points.

The 34-year-old footballer praised his teammates for their play and clean sheet, especially after the defensive unit had recently faced harsh criticism for conceding goals, despite a strong start in the league and the MTN8 tournament, where they will meet Pirates in the final on October 10th.

While this was pleasing to Masandwana fans, Williams' special mention of his league colleagues highlighted how important he remains an asset to the national team. He stated that his support extends not only to the current team but to the entire league.

He wished success to Sipho Tshabalala of Orlando Pirates and Brandon Petersen of Kaizer Chiefs, noting that Petersen was brilliant last season and will surely recover despite current difficulties. Williams also expressed pride in all goalkeepers, stating the need to continue promoting this position upwards.

Williams' coach, Miguel Cardoso, also highly praised the goalkeeper's achievements, asserting that Williams deserves more respect for his talent and contribution to South African football. During the post-match press conference at Loftus Versfeld, Cardoso noted that Ronwen is aware of the support from the coaching staff and is very strong under pressure, often performing best in tense moments.

Cardoso recalled that there was criticism before the Champions League final last season, but Williams managed it, and the penalty save likely played a huge role in winning the second star.

Williams is among the most successful captains of Bafana, having won bronze at the African championship and leading the national team into the World Cup playoffs for the first time. As Bafana prepares to start a new era in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers under the new coach Pitso Mosimane, it is expected that Williams will maintain leadership in the team, demonstrating exemplary behavior in every game and post-match appearances.
