Human speech follows a principle known as Zipf's law, according to which the most frequently used word appears approximately twice as often as the next most frequent, three times as often as the third, and so on.
Previously, researchers established that this law also applies to repeating sound sequences in humpback whale vocalizations. Recently, scientists have discovered a similar structure in the songs of Japanese amadins.
