When you suddenly feel like cooking something special late in the evening or during the day, but lack cheese, spices, or vegetables, people often order goods through services like Zepto, Blinkit, or Instamart. These services allow you to receive necessary groceries at home in just 10 minutes.
Sometimes conversations happen with couriers while waiting for delivery. One such instance occurred with a Zepto rider who was delivering an order at ten in the evening. Stray dogs started barking around him, and after the narrator helped him, they began communicating.
The narrator asked the rider, named Ramesh, about the risks of working late hours. Ramesh acknowledged the risks but noted that the pay is higher at night. He explained in detail the income calculation system for a 10-minute nighttime delivery.
Ramesh stated that after nine o'clock in the evening, the commission doubles. Usually, for a package delivery within a radius of at least two kilometers, which takes place in the morning, afternoon, or evening, 50 rupees are paid. However, if the delivery must be made within a two-kilometer radius after eight or nine in the evening, the commission doubles, reaching 100 rupees for the same order as during the day.
He also added that if the distance increases, the commission can rise even further because the number of riders decreases at night. Furthermore, in case of bad weather, such as rain or a storm, the commission can exceed the doubled amount. Sometimes, when there is a shortage of riders due to a high volume of orders, the commission also increases.
Ramesh specified that with daily work for 8 hours, the net earnings can be around 1200 rupees. After deducting fuel or e-bike charging costs, the income ranges from 1000 to 1200 rupees. In 8 hours, he manages to complete about 15 deliveries, including both long and short ones. If two or three extra night orders are added, this is equivalent to the earnings from five daytime deliveries.
