Geneticists studied the DNA of thirty-four medieval inhabitants of Finland

Geneticists were able to deepen their understanding of the population history of the Finnish population by analyzing the genetic material of 34 individuals who lived during the late Iron Age and early Middle Ages.

During the study, scientists discovered that the effective size of the local population significantly increased in southwestern Finland over several centuries. The influence of migration flows from Scandinavia on the genetic origin of people inhabiting coastal areas was also established.

The results of this work are presented in a scientific publication published in the journal Genome Biology.
