British actress Jamilah Jamil has criticized the pervasive use of Botox and other cosmetic injection procedures. She expressed nostalgia for natural facial expressions, noting how she misses faces that move, women frowning and laughing without visible strain.
Jamil shared her thoughts in an Instagram post where she elaborated on why static facial expressions diminish emotional sincerity. Furthermore, she suggested that this trend might facilitate artificial intelligence (AI) in reproducing female images on screens and online.
In her message, she wrote: 'I can no longer look at Botox-treated faces. I miss faces that move. I miss women frowning and laughing so it doesn't look painful.'
The actress, who is around forty years old, added that her peers are 'injecting all their wildness,' and she misses that greatly. She emphasized that her words are not meant as condemnation or an attempt to offend, but merely reflect her longing for 'female facial freedom.'
She further stated: 'Botox is a prison disguised as stoicism when women should be living fiercely. We should not have to pay to risk our face and health just to be a domesticated group of men who like children.'
Jamil also mentioned that she finds it impossible to watch emotionless actors in films. She concluded: 'I can no longer watch TV without being distracted by how expressionless my favorite actors have become. It's too much. We have lost touch with reality. Emotion is POWER.'
The caption accompanying Jamil's post read: 'I sincerely believe this is a ploy designed to make the replacement of women by AI on screen and online too easy. It is easy to reproduce a still face that looks like any other. This is already happening.'
Previously, Jamil began her career as a host for the pop culture series on T4 from 2009 to 2012. She then became a radio host and co-hosted the program The Official Chart Update with Scott Mills. She is known for her role in the fantasy comedy The Good Place, where she plays the character Tahani Al-Jamil.
